At the "AI x Energy" event—organized by the AFD’s Digital Energy program and onepoint—a panel of experts from the energy, digital transformation, and cloud sectors gathered to discuss a crucial question: how is artificial intelligence already transforming energy systems, and what new models are emerging between Europe and Africa?
Titled "From Europe to Africa: What New Energy Models in the Age of AI?", the panel offered a candid discussion on the practical applications of artificial intelligence in the energy sector. The conversation highlighted use cases currently generating value, examined situations where data acts as either an accelerator or a barrier, and explored how AI is already transforming energy generation, buildings, and grids.
The speakers also shared insights on adapting these innovations to the realities of African energy systems, while addressing growing challenges regarding the industrialization of solutions, technological sovereignty, and the energy costs associated with AI development.
The discussion benefited from the diverse perspectives of Thomas Métais (AI Program Manager at EDF), Bruno Fiastre (Sales Director at Deepki), Antoine Djigbenou (Digital Transformation Executive at Eranove), and Thierry Pierre (Principal Sales Lead for AI & Generative AI at AWS), who brought complementary viewpoints from the energy, digital, and cloud sectors.
