PowerPayBlock

IoT and blockchain platform to generate carbon credits from clean homes. Improves project efficiency and transparency, unlocks carbon financing, and supports rural electrification through certified emission reductions across the value chain.

Project description

PowerPayBlock is an IoT and blockchain platform designed to generate carbon credits from clean cooking solutions.

It combines IoT sensors to digitize and monitor the use of cooking devices with a blockchain infrastructure that aggregates, tracks, and monetizes certified emission reductions.

This approach improves the efficiency, integrity, and transparency of clean cooking projects, unlocks carbon financing, and supports rural electrification by accelerating decarbonization through high-value Emission Reduction Certificates traded on the blockchain.

The technology also enables the digitization of electric cooking data and helps structure a more reliable and measurable local carbon market.

The project is currently deployed in Madagascar.

Key milestones

1. IoT technology demonstration

Demonstrate the use of PowerPay’s IoT technology to digitize and monitor cooking devices, in collaboration with WeLight Africa in Madagascar.

2. Blockchain platform development

Develop and launch an online blockchain-based aggregation platform enabling the tokenization, sale, and retirement of Emission Reduction Certificates generated from offline credits certified under the Gold Standard.

3. Local carbon project development

Finalize the local carbon development process in Madagascar and successfully register a carbon project under the Gold Standard methodology for cooking equipment with measured energy consumption.

4. Technology expansion

Expand PowerPay’s IoT technology within the Malagasy market and digitize data related to electric cooking to improve monitoring and impact measurement.

5. Carbon credit aggregation and monetization

Use blockchain to aggregate, tokenize, trade, and retire Emission Reduction Certificates, ensuring transparency, traceability, and investor confidence.

6. Strategic and technical support

PowerPay is seeking technical expertise in carbon project development specific to Madagascar, provided by a qualified technical partner, as well as strategic relationships with relevant government agencies and access to local climate and energy ecosystems to facilitate stakeholder engagement and accelerate project implementation.
